Deadline chapter 1 and 2

Chapter 1.

My little reflection: Some people do not appreciate the work done by someone, or maybe they do not know how to get all the potential that a person can have. The hardest job in management is to correctly manage the people who you oversee.

Key character: Lahksa Hoolihan

In this chapter we met Lahksa Hoolihan, who is like a spy working for Morovia. She tried to convince Tompkins that he is really a good manager. She has great concepts on management, but she did not seem to be a manager at all. From she we learnt the ability of being persuasive. She looks like a kind person always, and she uses her charms to get what she wants from other people.

Chapter 2.

My little reflection: Even when you are “dreaming” you could realize important things. Hiring is very important; you are choosing your allies that will be with you on all the project. Administrativia is just the hard science of management, but that is just theory, in practice there are more things with so much more importance.

Key character: Edgar Kalbfuss

In this chapter we see Edgar Kalbfuss teaching a lesson on management in the weird dream of Mr. Tompkins. Kalbfuss is challenged by Webster, because, in consideration of Tompkins, he was not teaching important things about management, he was just saying generic things about the topic. I am almost sura that he knew all the topics that Webster was mentioning, but he was not explaining those topics. From Kalbfuss we learnt that we do not have to keep knowledge for ourselves, we must always try to give our best, the laziness cannot be an excuse.

3 best quotes of both chapters:

Get the right people. Then no matter what else you may do wrong after that, the people will save you. That’s what management is all about.”

“Hiring is only the most important thing a manager does.”

“You are going to teach us the hard science of management without even touching on people selection, task matching, motivation, or team formation – the four most essential ingredients of management?”
